FAQs
Q: Can non-members use the range?
A: No — you must be a current Vegreville Wildlife Federation member to access or use the range.
For insurance, liability, and safety reasons, unauthorized or non-member use is strictly prohibited.
If you’re interested in joining, please visit our [Membership Page], for details on how to become a member.
Q: Is the range area fenced?
A: No, the range is not fully fenced.
While some boundaries are marked, the range is bordered by natural features and neighboring properties, including a creek and muskeg to the north, private farmland to the east, and the Vegreville Golf Course to the south.
Because the area is open, it is especially important to stay within designated shooting areas and follow all range safety protocols to ensure the safety of others and respect surrounding land use.
Q: What ranges are available at the Vegreville Wildlife Federation?
A: The Vegreville Wildlife Federation provides a variety of well-maintained shooting and archery ranges, featuring staggered berms for added safety and flexibility across disciplines:
10-yard pistol range
Rifle ranges at 25, 50, 100, 200, and 300 yards
Regulation trap shooting layout
Archery range with varied distances for both traditional and compound bows
Our staggered berm design allows for safe, simultaneous use of multiple ranges, supporting everything from casual practice to competitive training.
All ranges are for current VWF members only and must be used in accordance with posted safety rules.
Q: Can multiple ranges be used at the same time?
A: Yes — the pistol and rifle ranges can be used simultaneously, thanks to the staggered berm layout.
However, for safety reasons:
The pistol and rifle ranges may not be used while trap shooting is in progress
Likewise, trap shooting is not permitted while the pistol or rifle ranges are in use
Only one shooting layout (rifle/pistol or trap) may be active at a time. Always check in with other shooters and follow range protocols to ensure everyone's safety.
Q: What does it mean if the red flag is already up when I arrive?
A: If the red flag is up, it means someone is actively using the range. They may be on the firing line or downrange checking or setting up targets.
Before proceeding:
Do not begin setting up your position
Check in with the other shooters on site
Identify the Range Officer and follow their direction
Always confirm that it is safe before entering or using the range. Safety is a shared responsibility — thank you for doing your part.

Q: Do I need to sign in and raise the red flag before shooting?
A: Yes — absolutely.
It is both a legal requirement and a range rule that you must sign in and raise the red safety flag before you begin shooting. This ensures everyone’s safety and helps us maintain proper range use records.
Failure to follow this rule may result in loss of range privileges.
Q: Can I drive on the range?
A: No — driving on the range is strictly prohibited.
For the safety of all users and to protect the integrity of the grounds, vehicles must remain in designated parking areas only. Please walk your equipment to the firing line or designated shooting areas.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and well-kept facility.
Q: What should I do when I arrive at the range?
A: Upon arrival, please identify the Range Officer on duty and introduce yourself.
Always follow all posted range rules and comply with any instructions given by the Range Officer. They are there to ensure everyone's safety and the smooth operation of the range.
Respectful communication and cooperation help create a safe and welcoming environment for all shooters.
